Colorado Historic Opera Houses Circuit Celebrates One-Year Anniversary

Opera Houses Mark Additional Anniversaries

(LEADVILLE, COLO, June 8, 2023) – The Colorado Historic Opera Houses Circuit, which connects five mountain opera houses, celebrates its one-year anniversary this month. Circuit visitors can experience a wide variety of live entertainment in historic venues—opera plus live music of all kinds, theater, dance, films, festivals, and more. The Circuit takes visitors to Colorado’s most picturesque mountain towns, with unique shops and delicious dining in historic districts, culture and heritage tours, and world-class outdoor activities.

In addition, Circuit opera houses are celebrating anniversaries of their own this summer.

Central City Opera House (Central City): The nation’s fifth-oldest professional opera company, Central City Opera, celebrates its 91st anniversary this year. Its 2023 Festival, “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” runs June 24 – Aug. 6, 2023, in the historic Central City Opera House. This season features the classic opera Romeo & Juliet by Charles Gounod, the delightful Cole Porter musical Kiss Me, Kate, and the exquisite masterpiece Othello by Gioachino Rossini.

Sheridan Opera House (Telluride): The Sheridan Arts Foundation hosts the 50th Telluride Bluegrass Festival, an iconic representation of all kinds of music (June 15-18); the 20th Telluride Plein Air Festival, a celebration of outdoor painting (June 28-July 4); and the 50th Telluride Film Festival featuring more than 50 programs (Sept. 1-4).

The Aspen Music Festival and School celebrates 74 years and presents Opera Encounters and Vocal Arts Showcases at the Wheeler Opera House on Saturday mornings and select Thursday evenings from July through mid-August. A student showcase, JAS Big Band led by Christian McBride, takes place on July 29.

Wright Opera House (Ouray): The Ouray International Film Festival launched in 2020 and returns this year for a weekend of jury-selected film screenings, conversations, parties, and awards (June 22-25).
