Built by the Wrights to counter some aspects of the mining culture, the Wright Opera House was intended to be the center of culture and arts for Ouray County. Now nearing a complete renovation, the Wright Opera House is fulfilling its mission as the premier performing arts venue and historic center for all for many decades to come.
Don’t miss this stunning example of history, artfully preserved. From the outside, see one of the best Mesker iron facades in the United States. Ouray boasts 19 of these metal mail-order storefronts popular between 1890 and 1910. Inside, check out a main stage curtain from the early years, which was discovered in the basement. In 2022, History Colorado honored the Wright with the Governor’s Award, one of the Stephen H. Hart Awards for Historic Preservation.
The Wright Opera House hosts a variety of events year ‘round, including the famous Ouray International Film Festival in late June. See our upcoming events below!
