The Wheeler takes great pride in being a part of Aspen's history as a gathering place and space for artistic expression in the community. From John Oates, Jim Gaffigan, Paula Poundstone, and Wynonna Judd to locally created performance experiences, the Wheeler is the Roaring Fork Valley’s premiere site for concerts, movies, festivals, lectures, community events, opera, and a whole lot more.
Since 1889, the story of the Wheeler has been the story of Aspen. On opening night, satin programs were scented with rose water, and the Wheeler glowed with some of the region’s first electric lights. Later came fires, vacancy, magical performances under fire-charred beams, and more than 70 years.
The Wheeler was renovated and reopened in 1984. Very quickly, it once again became Aspen’s most beloved building, in use almost every day of the year. In 2024, it celebrates the 40th anniversary of its grand reopening!
The Wheeler Opera House has a storied history of hosting legendary artists, unforgettable performances, award-winning festivals and much, much more. Come see a history-making show with us. See our upcoming events below!
